It was my 26 birthday, my hair was looking extremely healthy but I wanted a different look… lol, I wanted to look like a grown woman…(whatever that means) I took my braids out and called the salon for a hair appointment. I wanted to do something drastic… So, I asked about getting a perm and coloring my hair all in the same day. The stylist advised me not too but I was determined to have a different look for my birthday, which would be in just a few days.
Since the stylist wouldn’t do it, that Friday afternoon, I got a relaxer and the following day I went to the salon to color my hair. I was so in love with my new hair and look. It was not the longest it had ever been but it was fullest and healthiest, it had ever been.
I started to Google ways to care for my hair and that’s when I ran across YouTube and all the ladies sharing their journeys. It was the first time I had ever started to care for my hair… After watching the YouTube channels of ladies like MS.Kibbi, I realized I had messed up by getting a perm and bleaching my hair all in less than 24hrs. Nonetheless, my hair continued to thrive.
August 2010
By November my hair had grown to lengths I never knew I could achieve but the damage was already done and so it started looking a little brittle so I colored it once more… lol but this time back to black.
November 2010
My hair started falling out so bad that I thought I was ill. I went to the doctor and even underwent some major health screenings looking for the issue… He diagnosed me with stress… LOL IT WAS JUST OVERLY PROCESSED HAIR!
One day I had had enough of the shedding. I sat at my vanity and I literally chopped all of my hair off. I was left with maybe an inch of hair. So of course I went back to the weaves! I hated my natural hair… and there was no way I would allow anyone to see me with it. November 2011 I cut all my hair off not giving much thought to it
On my one Year natural Hair Anniversary I made a financial decision to stop wearing weaves, wigs and braids and embrace my coily 4a natural hair for the first time ever! Since then I have fallen in love once more rocking everything from the fro, to buns, and puffs.
Join me on my hair Journey to healthy hair as I continue to learn the ropes of this natural hair thing!
