Roller Set Results & A Hair Setback?

Yesterday, I roller set my hair for the first time in years (literally). Here are the results.

My last relaxer was October 2012, so I’m 8 months post relaxer. I don’t plan on going natural; I’m trying different methods for permanently straightening my hair. My last resort is getting a full relaxer so I can elimiate the need to blow dry and flat iron my hair weekly. Honestly, my hair thrived and retained the most length and thickness when it fully relaxed. Granted, my texlaxed hair was thicker but at this point in my life, I need the ease of bone straight hair.

After I removed the rollers, I lightly flat ironed my roots. Straightening my roots helps to minimize damage at the line of demarcation. The closer the curl and texture of my roots are to the length of my hair, the less I have to fight with my roots when styling my hair. Less fighting = less breakage.

My roller set hair looks and feels much thinner than the last time I roller set my hair. Partly because of my hair cut and just general stress as I navigate this new chapter in my life. For the first time, I can say that life is to blame for my hair setback.

I always remind women that your hair journey is still a journey. You don’t just reach your goal and stop growing (pun intended). You evolve, you try new things and sometimes you have a setback. Even a hair expert like me can suffer from a setback. I reached my ultimate goal of full waist length hair and published my book, The 5 Hair Archetypes, to help other women achieve their hair goals. The beauty about hair is that it will grow back.

I have a new goal of bringing my hair back to 100% (right now its at about 50%). What’s the plan? I’m going back to the basics and will share details soon. I may even start a grow out challenge.

Have you experienced a setback lately? Would you join my grow out challenge?
