Beach Regimen

Hibiscus I picked from my grandma’s garden

On Sunday, I went to the beach with my family and had a blast. I didn’t plan to swim, but I knew that my hair would get wet so I needed a plan to protect my hair while I enjoyed the water.

I decided to wear two fish braids as my protective style. This was my first time doing fish braids but I remembered watching a tutorial that Traycee from KISS did a few months ago. I parted my hair down the middle and made two ponytails, one behind each ear. I am right handed, so doing the left braid was easy and I got it right on the second try. The right braid was more tricky and it took about 5 attempts before I got it to look exactly like the left braid. I’m a stickler for balance, so I wanted them to look the same. It turned out great, but good grief it made my arms so tired LOL.

The benefit of doing this style was that it kept my hair tangle free while in the water.  It also kept me cooler in the hot sun. If I wore my hair down, I would have been very hot and uncomfortable with my hair sticking to my skin. In retrospect, I should have applied conditioner to my ends before I got in the water.

After the beach, I removed the braids and detangled with my fingers. When I got home, I did a co-wash with the Kirkland Signature Moisture Conditioner that my mom got for me. I’ll do a review on that soon. After the wash, I detanlged with my comb and applied some jojoba oil through out my hair and let it airdry. Once dried, I did 4 bantu knots and wore a bantu knot-out the next day.

As an aside, I didn’t plan to swim because I don’t like not knowing how deep the water is at all times. I can swim but there’s something unsettling to me about the unknown depths of the beach. So my decision to not swim was about that fear and not about my hair. I don’t let my hair stop me from living life.
