When I began my hair journey, I went cold turkey. Heat today, gone tomorrow. I think that decision was one of the best hair decisions I have ever made and it really jump started my journey.
My staple no heat style is the braid out. I wash, DC, and apply my leave-ins per usual. Initially, my next step was sectioning and braiding. My hair takes a bit longer to dry now than it did at first, so I let it air dry a good bit(~80%) before I place my hair in braids. I braid “satin” scarves into my hair. **The scarves I use are not real satin, they are the ones that come from any beauty supply store. ** I use the long rectangular ones. You can cut it in half lengthwise if you want a tighter pattern. I use the whole scarf for more of a wavy pattern.
I finger part my hair haphazardly into four or five sections of equal size and do a regular three strand braid where my hair is one strand and the ends of the scarf are the other two strands. To the right is a pic of the area of the braid. Apparently that day I was more concerned about my stray gray than getting a good pic of the braids, lol. I can take a better picture next time I do a braid out if you all would like to see it. I leave this in as long as possible or overnight to dry. Below is the finished result. I pin the sides up with hair pins or small claw clips.
