Coconut Vs. Jojoba Oil

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while. I’m scared to look back and see just how long a while, exactly. But I’ve been very busy with the 3rd year of medical school. So far I’ve done 2 months of pediatrics and one week of ob/gyn. I can already tell it’s going to be a tough decision between the two, when the time comes. It was purely luck that my top two choices were the first rotations I did, but I’m going to try my best to keep an open mind when I have to rotate through everything else.

So, to keep this hair related, I’ve tried both coconut oil and jojoba oil (both with and without “curl creme brule”, my favorite hair moisturizer).

Oil alone: I’ve found that I prefer coconut oil on my body (in lieu of lotion) because it’s thick and my skin absorbs it nicely. Jojoba oil is great on my hair, but since it feels “thinner” than coconut oil, I do have to use it daily (and I do NOT like daily moisture, even though I know it’s the right thing). Jojoba oil seems to be absorbed by the hair better, though, instead of sitting on the hair like coconut oil does (which probably contributes to the reason why I felt I didn’t need to moisturize daily with the coconut oil). I didn’t like jojoba oil on my skin though. It just felt greasy and not moisturizing enough.

Oil with “curl creme brule”: I still use the jojoba oil with it (so this combination is the hair winner), but it was just too much going on when I added it to the coconut oil.

I’d recommend giving both oils a try, for skin and hair. And mix it with your favorite hair moisturizer to see if you like the results!
