What’s up blogging world! I would like to give you all a big southern fried hello to whomever is reading this blog. My name is Ms.Danielle and I am so happy to be sharing my hair journey with y’all. Hopefully, I can learn as much from you as you can get from me..So, enough with the sappy stuff… let’s get down to the intro :).
I’m from South Georgia (almost Florida), going to school in North Carolina, and I’ve had relaxed hair longer than I can remember. I want to say that I got my first box perm around the age of 6. My mother has fine, thin hair and in contrast to my UBER thick curls, that was her only way to deal with my hair.
Not too long after this pic (I think I was 8), I decided that I wanted to start getting braids which my mom gave absolutely NO objection to my request. So, I got my hair done in box braids at the age of 9 and that became my staple hair style throughout middle school. I thought I was cute with this style. In fact, I still I was cute with this style.
Around 8th grade, I got tired of braids/ they went out of style and I wanted to wear my real hair. From what my mother told me, my hair was down my back. I don’t remember that part because I blocked out the traumatic experience to follow. You see… what had happened was (by the way, I know that this statement is by no means grammatically correct but I think it’s great for emphasis.) Anyway, as soon as we took out my braids, my scissor-happy hairstylist cousin decided that I needed a “trim” which ended up being an ear length cut. I remember that part because I was crying about how I couldn’t pull my hair back into a ponytail. 🙁
So, the picture above was my perpetual length throughout high school. My hair always been thick but I was going to a stylist and allowing her to do ALL the wrong things. Outside of that, I had bad breakage that never allowed me to see significant length. By the time I went to college in 2009, My hair was slightly longer than this point and it was healthier but it stayed at that length until I started regularly protective styling (braids, weaves, buns, etc).

After 6 months of back-to-back braids, for the first time, my hair was touching my back and I loved it! So in the summer of 2011, I started my hair journey. Although, I have found a regimen and products that work for me, this is still very much a journey. I am currently grazing APL after a stylist gave me an even-trim against my will (Grrr!) but it’s all good. This is a learning process for me as well as to the readers of this blog. But being on my hair journey is a struggle because I am not the most patient person in the world but hopefully, we can work on this together.
