The End of an Era: My ‘Roaring’ 20s

Me and hubby at our law school graduation
I knew that I wanted to become an attorney since I was a freshman in high school. Law school was the most challenging time for me academically. But it was also the most rewarding. A hard earned “A” is much more satisfying that an easy “A.” There were no easy grades in law school. I also started my hair journey when I started law school and graduated with my goal of full bra-strap length hair.
Our graduation trip to the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, NC
I met my husband in law school. We started out as study partners and then overtime we fell in love without even realizing it. After graduation, my parents gifted me with a week long vacation to Asheville, NC. Hubby came with me and he says it was on that trip that he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He started shopping for a ring shortly after.
The proposal
I started working at a large law firm in Florida doing Trusts & Estates law and I passed the Florida Bar exam. Then the housing market crashed and law firms across the nation had massive lay offs. My firm was no exception and I was one of the attorneys who were let go. It was the first setback I’d ever experienced in my life, and I was devastated. By this time, hubby and I were engaged and he got an offer at a law firm in NC. So we moved to NC together.
Making the hair fascinators. I hand cut every petal and assembled them myself.
Over the next year, I planned our wedding and was the ultimate DIY Bride. I enjoy being creative and love doing crafts. I wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we are and personalized everything. There were a total of 26 DIY projects, including our invitations and the hair fascinators I made for myself and my bridesmaids. We had a beautiful wedding and everything was perfect.
Our wedding party
I started this blog and my hair care company shortly after we got married. The experience of losing my job made me realize that while I love the law, hair is my passion and I wanted to help other women achieve their hair goals. I also started writing my book, and after two years of working on it, my book will be published this summer.

They say that your twenties are for figuring out who you are. Well I used my twenties judiciously. I took road trips and did a little traveling. I fell in love and fell out of love. Then found true love. I made mistakes and learned from them. I watched others make mistakes and learned from them too. I built new friendships and severed toxic ones. I tried new things and found a new passion and sport with horseback riding. I surprised myself with how much strength I had and how far I could push myself without breaking.
So how do I feel about being 30? I feel blessed and excited for this next decade in my life. I feel more free to become who I truly am. For some women, turning 30 is a sad or upsetting milestone. Having lost a close childhood friend a few years ago in a car accident, I wouldn’t dare feel those things. She will be forever young and never get the chance to see thirty. Ever year is a gift and I’m thankful for each day I get to live, learn, and love.

Thank you for allowing me to share about myself in this personal way. I am grateful to have the most sophisticated, kind, and supportive readers.
