Throwback Hair Picture: Braid Out

Here’s a picture of my braid out in August 2008. This was taken one month before my stylist induced setback. My hair had a blunt cut and was mid back length. I’m still trying to get my hair back to this thickness. This was my regimen during that time:

  • Wash day: pre-poo treatment with hot oil or light conditioner, shampoo, reconstructor and deep conditioner under hair steamer,
  • Reverse roller set after every wash and sparingly flat ironed my roots,
  • Moisturize daily with jojoba oil.
That regimen worked well for me. But I modified it to save time. Specifically, I started blow drying and flat ironing instead of roller setting. Roller sets are time consuming and with the length of my hair at the time it was very tricky to do.
Ends curled with perm rods
To achieve this style, I washed and air dried my hair. Then I did 6 cornrows/cainrows and used small perm rods (a.k.a. jheri curl rollers) to secure and curl the ends. To moisturize, I sprayed with Sta Sof Fro and sealed with coconut oil. To maintain the style, I would wear a high loose bun to bed and secure with hair pins.
