My wrist finally felt well enough for me to wash my hair. If you were counting, that means I went 3 weeks without washing my hair. Needless to say, my scalp was icky.
Although I’ve been using the Neutrogena T-Sal Shampoo as needed to remove and prevent scalp build-up, I was pretty confident that even this amount of scalp build-up would require more scrubbing that I’m comfy with to get a clean debris-free scalp.
So I decided to do a pre-shampoo steam treatment. I detangled and braided my hair as usual for my wash day. Then I sat under the steamer with the braids hanging down and my hair uncovered. I did not add any oils to scalp because I wanted the steam to be able to loosen the scalp build-up without the interference of oils.
After about 7 minutes of steaming, I used a color applicator bottle to apply the diluted T-Sal Shampoo to my scalp. I gently massaged my scalp and then sat under the steamer for 2 minutes. I was very concerned that steaming with the T-Sal shampoo would dry out my roots and lead to tangles. That is why I steamed for such a short time. Next, I followed my usual wash day routine.
My scalp came out very clean and fortunately steaming with the shampoo did not have any adverse effect on my hair. I’m so happy that I tried this out, and that it worked. We can add pre-shampoo treatment as another added benefit of having a hair steamer.
