Growing Grey

I have a confession… I have grey hair. There. I said it. (I thought confessions were supposed to make you feel better).

I found my first grey hair during law school and I completely lost my cool about it. Wasn’t it enough that school had wreaked havoc on my skin (I’m prone to stress breakouts)? But no, it was also causing me to go prematurely grey. So I quickly plucked out the strand and combed through my hair in search of others. I told you that I lost my cool about it.

That was over six years ago and now I have six grey hairs accounted for. I’ve come to embrace them, but I still pluck out the ones that are visible along my hairline. My mom has lots of greys (sorry mom LOL) and she chooses to color her hair. I expect that my hair will grey in the same way hers did, but I haven’t decided whether I will color my hair to cover them. My options are limited considering that my first attempt at commercial hair color ended with an allergic reaction, and my attempt at using a natural product ended with a setback. The most I can use is a hair rinse, which are not always great at covering greys.

My concern is more about having uniformity with my hair color and less about the implications of having grey hair (i.e. getting older). I’m proud of my age and how much I’ve accomplished during my life.

For my readers in their twenties and up, how did you respond to finding your first grey? What’s your outlook on “growing” grey?
