Back in March, my stylist suggested that I try Oyin Hair Dew to help make my hair more manageable during my stretch. Here is my review of this product on my relaxed hair. I ordered the Hair Dew and tried to use it a few different ways with the hopes of it working for my hair.
First Use: The first time I used it was about one week after my relaxer, so I did not have any newgrowth. I applied it to all of my hair along with my usual leave-ins and then let my hair air dry. My hair took longer than usual to air dry, which I did not like. In the morning, my hair felt like straw, it looked dry and dull.
Second Use: After my first attempt, I waited a couple of washes before trying to use the Hair Dew again. With my second try I decided to try again without using my usual leave-ins. So I washed my hair, only applied the Hair Dew to all of my hair and let it air dry. My hair turned out even dryer and more dull looking than the first time.
Third Use: The third and final time that I used the product was well into my stretch, so I had at least 1″ of newgrowth. This time, I decided to focus the product on my new growth only. After I washed my hair, I applied my usual leave-ins to the length of my hair. Next, I parted my hair and heavily applied the Hair Dew to my roots in a manner similar to how one would apply relaxer to newgrowth. Again, I let my hair air dry. The next day my newgrowth curls were very defined and the curls clumped together nicely. However, my newgrowth also felt a little stiff, rather than flexible to the touch.
Final Thoughts: I was very disappointed that the Hair Dew did not work for my relaxed hair. And I did not like how it left my new growth feeling stiff, although the clumped curls were very pretty. I was hoping that this product would work for me because it has some wonderful ingredients. Oddly enough, I have used the ingredients either alone or in other products that work for me. Their formulation just didn’t work for my relaxed hair.
The good thing is that it did not give me a setback. I’m always grateful for that. My stylist has natural hair and she loves it, so I’m going to send it to my sister, MsNastassja, for her to try on her natural hair and report back to us. Although the Hair Dew didn’t help me along my stretch, fortunately I found a wonderful alternative that did help: Aloe vera juice.
Did anyone have a similar experience using it on relaxed hair?
