New-growth in back |
I always get very excited the night before my relaxer. I compare the excitement to unwrapping a present, you don’t know what you will get but you hope it will be good. Since I haven’t straightened my hair in almost 10 weeks, this will be the first time since my last relaxer that I will get to see my true length.
I just sprayed my roots with Sta-Sof-Fro and will do a light detangle after the shower (without the shower cap). The shower’s steam will help to soften my new-growth.

Here are some measurements of my un-stretched new-growth. This is not an exact science, especially since I had to hold the camera and the tape measure myself. But roughly, I’d say that my hair probably grew a little below the average 1/2″ per month in the winter time. I’ll measure again in the summer and do a comparison. Frankly, the growth rate isn’t nearly as important as the retention rate, which is why I usually don’t measure my new-growth.
