“Scalp” shot of the wig |
Here are some of the most common questions I get about my wig regimen. I hope this is helpful.
- Do you sleep in the wig?
- No, I remove the wig every night, moisturize my hair, and cover with my silk bonnet. When I’m at home, I usually just wear a pretty scarf to cover the braids.
- Since your hair is texlaxed, how do you get the hair you leave out to match the wig texture?
- I flat iron the hair I leave out once a week, after I wash my hair.
- How do you care for the hair you leave out?
- I use my usual creamy moisturizer daily on the hair I leave out. If I used the liquid moisturizer that I apply to the braids, it would cause my hair to “revert” and would require more frequent flat ironing to match the texture of the wig.
- What is a good alternative to coconut oil, since it solidifies in the cold weather?
- Any oil can be used to seal in your liquid moisturizer. However, I love using castor oil in the winter because of its thickness.
- How long will you wear the wig?
- At least 10 weeks. My next relaxer is scheduled for March 19, but I doubt the weather will consistently warm up enough for me to start my regular regimen. My goal is to wear the wig for 4 months and see how much growth I retain.
- Do you wear a wig cap and why?
- Yes, I wear a wig cap because it helps me to smoothy put on and remove the wig. I’ve tried going without the wig cap and decided that I prefer using the wig cap.
